Last week, Nadine made sushi in her Artary class! I like the creativity and variety of Artary's classes. The kids learn new skills almost every lesson, and put into practice old skills that they'd learnt before as well, helping them to become better artists.

On Wednesday, after watching "We Bought A Zoo", Nadine drew this tiger for Daddy, inspired by the boy in the show who was constantly drawing, and whose doodle of a tiger was eventually used as the new logo for the zoo.

 

And this, is Nadine's rendition of Magneto. Daddy told her that Magneto is his favourite X-Man. So, she drew this for him!

Ballet class open house

A few weeks ago, parents were allowed to sit through the ballet class, to see how the class is conducted, and the fun things that our daughters are learning in the class.

Now I know why Nadine loves her ballet classes so much. Ms Pang incorporates a lot of fun elements into the class, making the girls pretend to be fairies, princesses, animals, etc. Yet she is firm and them, and will not tolerate nonsense. Very good, I like!

Art as a form of expression

Nadine has picked up a lot of great art and craft skills from her classes at Artary. And she's become an even more prolific artist. She draws and paints her family, her friends, her favourite cartoon characters (which, at the moment, is Elsa of Frozen); and she gives her art pieces to us, her friends, her teachers, and whoever she likes. Even her teachers at Artary say she's good at using art to express herself. Her artwork also shows that she's very observant.

Nadine would also pick up all kinds of materials and recycle them into art. These hearts are cut out from a corrugated board wrapping a massage bed that we borrowed for Daddy, who had to lie face down for 20 hours a day.

She may not be the most talented artist, but I love it that she's found a way to express herself, and she recycles materials for her art work.

Yamaha "concert"

Nadine completed 1 term of her Yamaha Junior Course at the end of September. The kids got to put up a "concert" - which really is just playing a short piece of music of their choice in front of their classmates and parents.

Aaron says the darnest things

Last Friday, I told the kids that we were going to a cell member's house to do house-blessing, to pray for their new house. Aaron's response ...

Aaron: Are we going to Uncle Kenny and Auntie Joyce's house?

Me: Yes, we're going to pray for their new house.

Aaron: But a house is too heavy for people to carry!

The only concept of purchase that he understands is cash-and-carry!

Yesterday, Aaron was in my room with Daddy. He examined my alarm clock, then said to Daddy:

Aaron: Your clock is spoilt

Daddy: Yep, you dropped it

Aaron: No, I did not. Mummy pulled my hand back. So I did not drop it. It must be Cheh-Cheh!

So fast to push responsibility!

Facetime

Facetime is a great invention. 2 weeks ago, when I was in East Timor for mission, I facetimed with the kids every day. Was wonderful be to able to see them and see what antics they were up to.

The photographer uncle is really good at making the kids smile. So far, in all of Nadine's photos, she looks really happy. And now Aaron's as well. Wonderful to photo-journal the kids' kindy life through happy portraits!

Role reversal

This morning, Nadine saw that Daddy was dressed casually, so asked him why he was dressed that way. Daddy told her that he had to attend a class today.

In the evening, when Daddy came home, Nadine parroted a conversation that we typically have with her ....
Nadine: Hi Daddy! How was your class?
Daddy: Hi! It was good.
Nadine: What did you learn?
Daddy went on to tell her what he learnt.

The importance of good role-modelling, and doing and saying the right things that you want your kids to pick up!

Bintan Lagoon Resort

Weekend before school reopens, we went to Bintan Lagoon Resort with the Gans. It was a relaxing holiday of chilling by the beach, by the pool, and at our villa.

The kids' club is a far cry from the one at Club Med, but the kids enjoyed it, nonetheless. And 11-year-old Gerald is now considered too old for the kids' club! Old enough to be allowed to stay at the club to babysit Aaron (by the club)! That was fantastic because he was more than happy to babysit, and that released the adults to go for 2 sessions of massage! What a treat!
