Chinese New Year

Nadine's 1st CNY.

Daddy was pleased that Nadine finally wore 1 of the many dresses he bought from the Gap sale. She looked really pretty, and Daddy and Mummy were able to forget temporarily her crankiness the night before.

She slept through most of the morning at Po-Po's house and all efforts to wake her up failed. But when she finally woke up, she was a nervous wreck. Cried non-stop (therefore no chance to take any other nice photos of her in her pretty dress except for this one with Po-Po).

We realised later back home that she had nappy rash. Poor darling. Her crankiness and crying became worse at night. Daddy and Mummy frantically tried to diagnose Nadine. We figured, she's probably been over-stimulated from the last few days of visitors. Guess that's why babies are supposed to be "confined" during their 1st month. Will have to shower her with extra TLC and help her regain her composure in the next few days.

Doesn't she look like she's thinking in her sleep? She smiles a lot in her sleep too. Must try and capture that in photos.

New Toy

Daddy takes a lot of joy from just looking at Nadine and talking to her. She's like a new toy to him, except that this toy changes every day, and is sure not one that he can become bored with (I hope!).

1 week old!

Nadine is 1 week old today! But it still feels so surreal ....

The more Daddy and Mummy look at Nadine, the more they're thankful to God for this little darling whom God has created for them ..... He's even given her a little tail to distinguish her!

Change

Mummy was bedridden for a couple of days in the hospital. So Daddy was the first to change Nadine's diapers. And Mummy thought he's doing such a good job that he should continue doing it!

Daddy's sister, Aunty Rachel, was amazed to see Daddy changing Nadine. She commented that her brother has changed! Guess that's what fatherhood does to a person!

Homebound

Day 5,  16 Jan 2009

Nadine's jaundice level came down to 154 and can finally go home!

Nadine had jaundice, so had to stay back in hospital for 2 more days. Daddy and Mummy visited her on Day 4, and she seemed really happy to "see" us. And how did we get that super-duper smile out of her? Daddy said, "Hi Darling, you'll be getting your milk fresh from the tap!"

Ponyo

The Gans came to visit on Day 3. Gerald and Marcus were really sweet, and Marcus picked a pair of cute pink shoes for Nadine. 

As they looked at Nadine, all-swaddled, Marcus asked me innocently, "Does she have legs?"

So farnie! I answered, "Yes! She's not Ponyo!

Ponyo is the baby fish in the sea that becomes a little girl in Hayao Miyazaki's new cartoon, "Ponyo on the Cliff by the Sea". Daddy and Mummy had gone to watch it last week. And now, the more we look at Nadine, the more we think she looks like Ponyo!

All's Swell

Mummy was the last to take photo with Nadine on Day 1, coz Mummy felt she looked crappy and wanted a shower badly. Of course no shower was allowed. In any case, the epidural had yet to wear off and Mummy couldn't get out of bed. So, crappy or not, need to take 1 pic for the album!

The Show

Mummy woke up on Saturday morning (10 Jan) and had "the show" - bloody discharge. But no contractions. So there was a bit of hesitation on whether to go to the hospital or not. After a bit of contemplations, and consulting Aunty Sylvia, Mummy and Daddy decided to go to hospital, just to be on the safe side. But we took our own sweet time to shower and eat breakfast before going.

Admission instructions said to go straight to the Delivery Suite. Mummy was strapped up for observations in 1 of the cubicles, and Daddy had to wait outside. Very boring for both. After about half an hour, Dr Tee, who was at the clinic, asked Mummy to go down to see him.

Mummy was only 2cm dilated. Dr Tee sent Mummy home to rest and to check in tomorrow morning at 7.30am. He was very confident that Nadine will only come out tomorrow morning.

But by about 7.30pm, Mummy was getting regular contractions every 5 min. So it was back to the hospital again. This time, Mummy and Daddy were led straight to one of the Delivery Suites.

Dr Tee came at 9ish. Dilation was still only about 3cm. He broke Mummy's water bag, and said it'll be another 7-8 hours before Nadine comes out. Asked if Mummy wants epidural. Why go through 7-8 hours of pain and risk not having enough energy to push Nadine out right? So yes to epidural.

Unfortunately, by 5am, Mummy was only 5cm dilated, and by 8am, only 6cm. Dr Tee thought Nadine's probably having difficulties coming down. So he decided to go for a c-section.

8.38am - Nadine's out! Yippee! Welcome to this world, Nadine!

Puzzled .....

Daddy is really bored cos Mummy is absolutely, hopelessly, and inexplicably hooked to Sudoku puzzles!!! You should see her at it ... amazing. I've never seen anything like this .... I thot preggies were supposed to have food cravings and not puzzle cravings??!!

Prophets Galore!

The most-frequently-asked-question for Mummy these days: "When is baby coming out?"

"17 Jan," answers Mummy.

Most commonly made statement after that: "Sure early wan!"

And many friends are playing prophet by giving a date for Nadine's grand appearance. Uncle Melvin said 10 Jan. Uncle Joe Chow wants it to be 9 Jan, same day as his wedding anniversary. Mummy's colleague, Klaus, said 8 Jan, and promised to bring a bottle of champagne to celebrate if he's correct.

Daddy can't wait to see Nadine. Mummy's undecided coz while it's becoming more difficult, tiring and painful to carry Nadine, Mummy also can't bear to "separate" from her, and miss having her twist and turn in Mummy's stomach. Dilemma! Then again, it's not really for us to decide rite?!
