*Blink*

Around week 26, a baby's eyes open and even begin to blink.

Today, Nadine (week 37) blinked at us!

We were trying to figure out what exactly the ultrasound scans were showing when she blinked. Immediately, the face became super-clear! And her eyes are BIG!

Dr Tham said we're very lucky parents coz babies don't open their eyes often in the womb, and it's even more rare to catch them doing so through the ultra-sound.

Our little girl sure made our day!

Nadine's Room

Daddy gave Mummy a huge surprise last night.

He spent the day spring-cleaning and packing the study/drum room, and transformed it into a nursery for Nadine. It's not complete yet. The playpen's sitting where the "pre-loved" baby cot from Aunty Siew Whoon & Aunty Cheryl is supposed to be. But it's still waiting for a new coat of paint from Daddy. But at least we now look a lot more ready for Nadine's arrival and home-coming, and she will not have to share the room with Daddy's boxes of Star Wars toys (drum set is still there tho, but it's ok .... we want her to be musical)!

The issue of Faith

Having a baby really allows us to see God as the Creator in a whole new enlightened way.

Last night, at pre-natal class, we learnt about breastfeeding. I thought I’ve read enough about breastfeeding, and already know all its benefits for both Mummy and baby – bonding, stronger immune system, economical, convenient, weight loss for Mummy, etc.

But I didn’t know that if mums breastfed babies in the first half hour of delivery,
- baby will learn feeding skills quicker;
- baby will have less tendency of low blood sugar level
- the mild laxative effect of the colostrum (1st part of mum’s milk) will help baby with his 1st poo (which is blackish and looks like tar ….. yucks!)
- baby’s sucking action will trigger mum’s body to start producing milk, therefore leading to more successful breastfeeding subsequently

Wow!

How did God plan all these while He was creating babies??!! So thoughtful rite?!

At the end of the lesson, Daddy said, “That’s why I say, it takes more faith to believe in the Evolution Theory than to believe in God!”

Gifts from Daddy

Daddy is a toy enthusiast (this is an understatement tho). So very early on during our prenancy, while Mummy was shopping for baby cots, car seats, prams, etc, Daddy was focused on finding Nadine her 1st stuffed toy.

And he was very proud when he finally found the "perfect" toy - a mini Tenderheart Care Bear, to match Mummy's bigger Tenderheart.

Then we read in "Baby Whisperer" that babies shouldn't play with or look at colourful toys close to bedtime, as that will over-stimulate the baby. So Daddy went on a mission to look for a plain-coloured stuffed toy. He found Hippo at Fox Kids, and was very pleased.

Starting the Journey

I've had a lot of fun reading friends' blogs. So as I prepare for Nadine's arrival into this world, I thot maybe I should document her life (or just significant moments) electronically.

Having her in our lives has been a great journey of discovery. I discover strange things that my body is capable of, and ..... horrors, horrors - I can become one of those talk-non-stop-abt-baby mums! Yikes!

I also discover naughty things that a baby is capable of, even while inside Mummy's tummy - like distorting Mummy's tummy when she stretches, and squashing the intestines till Mummy needs to dash to the loo.

We can't wait for the day of Nadine's grand arrival. What (or who) will she look like? How will she behave? What kind of parents will we be? Hmm ......
