One thing I appreciate about our helper is that she doesn't do everything for the kids. She teaches them to help with household chores, and do simple things such as bringing their empty dishes to the kitchen sink, keeping the toys after they're done playing, cleaning up their mess, etc. She also turns some of these chores into fun activities for them - such as watering the plants and washing the balcony, which is like water play for the kids.
Last Saturday, after baking some cookies, she made them clean up the table.
I like it that the kids are not "served" all the time, and are taught to share the household chores, as well as to be responsible for their mess. Hopefully, these values will be drilled into the kids' heads and make them responsible individuals!
