Woke up to a cold morning.
This minsu in Hualien was our least favourite of all the places we stayed in during this trip. It had a very family-run feel, which was nice, and the best thing about it was the laundry facilities. But the room had a musty smell, and the overall place was like Wendy said, a very Pulau Ubin feel.
Nonetheless, it was a nice enough place. Breakfast was good. Loved the pumpkin soup.
And I saw this plant with curious-looking purple triangle leaves. Found out they were purple clover.
We left the minsu and made our way to Yilan - 宜兰, stopping by first at the scenic Qingshui Cliff - 清水断崖.
The view was magnificent, and Daddy and Aaron thought the place reminded them of Luke Skywalker's home!
But by this time, we'd sort of had enough of mountains and sea view. Think Tim was not very happy that we didn't stay longer to enjoy the view. We were more eager for the next stop - the fish market in Yilan were we could buy fresh seafood and get a restaurant to cook them for us.
The fish at the market was cheeeeap! We bought 2 huge red groupers for SGD10, a large slab of salmon, a large slab of tuna, and a large slab of sailfish for ... can't remember how much, but was definitely a fraction of the price we'd have had to pay in Singapore. Bought another fish and some clams too.
Brought it to this restaurant, and bought some fresh scallops at there too.
It was another sumptuous meal!
After lunch, we went to Lucky Art Crayon Factory for the kids to make their own crayon, while the adults went opposite to the Yilan Cake Factory for cakes and coffee.
Turned out that the kids found the crayon making exercise really childish and boring, and didn't enjoy it at all! They were not pleased that the adults took such a long time to go back to them!
By the time we left that place, it was starting to get dark. We drove to our 4th accommodation for the trip, Shangrila Leisure Farm - 香格里拉休闲农场 - the most interesting of all our accommodations during this trip.
It was too dark by the time we got there to explore or take photos, even though it was just about 6pm. And after checking in, we left for the 罗东夜市 immediately. That would be the last 夜市 that we'd visit because we've really had enough 夜市 already! We realised by the that no matter which part of Taiwan we were, the 夜市 was more or less the same. Same games, same food, more or less same merchandise. Nonetheless, it was something very Taiwanese, and we did enjoy the vibes and streetfood very much.
