Taiwan December 2018 - Day 5

Sunrise at Cingjing - our 2nd and last morning at Cingjing Vienna.

This was our coldest day Taiwan. Temperature hovered at around 10-15°C. Was still comfortable when there was sun. But in the afternoon, it started to drizzle, and became quite cold.

We went to Taroko National Park, starting at Mt Hehuan - 合欢山. The views were magnificent.

Drove up to the highest point where cars can go - Wuling.
It was so cold that Aaron refused to get out of the van.

While we were all at the lookout point, Aaron decided to come find us. We were surprised that he had the courage to walk through the car park amidst the crowd, and didn't seem to be scared! I got a shock when I saw him trying to cross the road!

After that, it was down the mountain. Felt like we were descending from the clouds.

The drive was so twisty that Aaron had a very bad case of motion sickness.

Halfway, we stopped for lunch at the only restaurant in the area - next to the Bilu Sacred Tree - 碧祿神木 (otherwise, it'd be another 2 hours' drive before we get anywhere that sells food). The tree is estimated to be more than 3,000 years old!

After enduring a torturous 2-hour ride, we finally got to the Swallow Grotto - 燕子口. Heard that most people would spend a day, or at least half a day trekking through the trail. We trekked for only half an hour, as the kids were really not interested in the sights - caves and rocks.

Then it was a long ride to Hualien - 花莲.
We first stopped at 七星潭 - where the mountains meet the sea.

It's the first time that we see a beach without sand. Instead, it's full of pebbles of different sizes. The kids had fun building pebble towers.

After 七星潭, we went to our minsu 梦田信箱. Too dark to check out the place, but certainly one of the best things about this minsu is that they have washing machines that guests can use!

After we checked in, we immediately left for dinner. Our driver brought us to an aboriginal restaurant - 咕噜咕噜原住民海鲜餐厅. Food was pretty, and we had some local vegetables and fish that we'd never seen before.

After dinner, it was grocery shopping at a nearby supermarket, then back to the minsu to wash up, chill, and do laundry!

End of a very tiring Day 5.
