This is what we woke up to in the morning...
Our minsu was really nice. Lovely tudor architecture, with nice healthy Taiwanese porridge breakfast. Our family had a deluxe quadruple room, which had plenty of space for us to move around in, and even for all 10 of us to gather at night - kids play their gadgets in one corner, while the adults chit-chat in another
When we drove out that morning, we were greeted by clouds, blue sky, more clouds and more blue sky.
1st stop - Nina Chocolate, for the kids to make their own chocolate.
While the kids were having fun, our van driver, 吴导, offered to take photos of the 2 couples - like wedding shoot! He was really nice, and kind, and boasted that his photography skills are really good, and had actually done some wedding photography before. But the poses he suggested were really hilarious - from the 70s. Nonetheless, we humoured him, and kept ourselves entertained.
After chocolate-making, it was off to more mountainous-blue-sky-fluffy-clouds photo-taking.
We were brought to the most luxurious and expensive hotel in Cingjing - The Old England, where the most basic room is about SGD536 a night!
Love this photo of the kids looking out
And this photo of father-and-son, colour-coordinated.
Then it was lunch - Yunnan food, as Cingjing has a huge migrant population from Yunnan.
After lunch, we went to the famous 清境农场.
Had heard so much about this farm, and it seems to be a must-go place for everyone who goes to Cingjing. But honestly, it was quite a disappointment. It was just a huge grassland, with lots of sheep. Period.
In addition it was so crowded, and there was sheep poo everywhere, we had to walk very carefully to make sure we did not step on any poo.
We were bored within 15 min.
Left quite soon, and went for some snacks before continuing with our itinerary.
The long journey, late nights, and heavy lunch were taking a toil on all of us. We all had heavy eyelids, especially Aaron ...
Next - Cingjing Skywalk - 清境高空观景步道.
Sort of like our Henderson Bridge, but way higher, cooler, and I guess if it wasn't so cloudy, the view would have been spectacular.
My 2 boys were so sleepy and tired, that they had to take a catnap halfway.
We were all so grateful when we finally finished the walk, and got to Carton King - 纸箱王, not because of the exhibits, but because we can finally sit down for a coffee!
The kids were not interested in the exhibits either. They just wanted to play on the spiral slide. And they did that for about 45 min!
They had a moving carton train too. Only Ethan and Aaron were young-at-heart enough to want to go on it.
Next highlight - urn chicken for dinner. That's like the local delicacy. Our driver brought us to Inako Scenic View Cafe - 伊拿谷景观餐厅.
Besides 2 whole chicken and other dishes, we also ordered the fish soup, which was massive. There was so much stuff in the soup!
The chicken finally came after a long wait. It was worth the wait. It was roasted to perfection - crispy on the outside, tender and juicy on the inside. Full of fragrance and flavour.
The fun was also in having to rip the chicken apart ourselves - in our case, our soldier did it. And the kids polished off every bit of the chicken.
The chicken is roasted in a large earthen jar on the flames over longan woods. And the chef constantly takes it out to spray it with seasoning. No wonder it's not dry.
What a satisfying end to a long, tiring day!
