Taiwan December 2018 - Day 3

Day 3, we went to Sun Moon Lake - 日月潭 and the Formosan Aboriginal Cultural Village - 九族文化村.

日月潭 is Taiwan's largest lake, located in the mountains of Nantou at the geographic centre of Taiwan island. Its name is inspired by the beauty of the area. The east side of the lake is round, like the sun, while the west side is long and narrow, like a crescent moon.

We couldn't see the sun nor the moon..... and the highlight of the boat ride across to the first stop 玄光码头 - eat 茶叶蛋!

There was also a very good aboriginal band performing. Very amusing to see a group of PRC tourists joining in to dance ... like what we saw when we went on the Royal Carribean cruise.

Besides the performance and the 茶叶蛋, the only other attraction was a temple, which we were not interested to visit, and this long stairs, which we were not willing to climb.

So it was just photo-taking, enjoy the band performance, eat 茶叶蛋, and then off to the next island.

The clear waters and blue sky was really nice.

Next stop, Ita Thao - 伊达绍码头, which had a lot more shops and life. They have a famous 老街 where we had our lunch, ice-cream and snack.

Beef noodles for lunch

Ice cream for dessert

While walking to our vans, we saw this cotton tree .... reminded us of the Lorax movie!

We took the cable car to the Formosan Aboriginal Culture Village - 九族文化村.

The Formosan Aboriginal Culture Village is a really big park with one section showcasing various Taiwanese aboriginal tribe's culture and heritage, and another section a theme park.

The kids, and some adults, enjoyed the blow pipe archery.

They were also really fascinated with the live demo of coloured glass art. Stood there and watched the lady do her art for a long time.

The culture village was also a beautiful place to walk around in. Very quiet and peaceful - gives a feeling that one's in the woods. Yet there are gift shops, restaurants, bathrooms and wash-points along the way to the theme park section. Very well-planned. We loved it!

By the time we got to the theme park, the adults were so tired and it was too cold to play outside. So we went straight into the sheltered section where the kids went on several rides, and played several arcade games.

It was very amusing for us that at 5pm, closing time of the park, the staff promptly shut down all the games and lights, and left the park. There was no announcement that the park was closing, nor did any staff come round to inform us.

We happily went round and took some more photos before finally finding the entrance where our drivers were waiting for us.

Then we drove to 南头县埔里镇 and for dinner at 方正谷地方菜, a restaurant that serves local dishes with fresh ingredients typical of the region. Dinner was yummy, and we were so busy eating that we forgot to take photos!

Thereafter, we checked into our minsu in Cingjing 清境 - 维也纳民宿.
It as too dark too explore the area, but we did venture out to the nearby Seven Eleven to buy some supplies. There are actually 2 Seven Elevens within 5 min walk from the minsu. Excellent location! We'll find out how the minsu really looks in the morning!
