Taiwan December 2018 - Day 1 & 2

Finally, our year-end vacation!

This year, we went to Taiwan, and covered more of the island than we ever did in the past few trips that we'd been there! Took way more photos too, starting from the airport, where there was a Harry Potter Wonderland.

We landed in Taoyuan Airport, and immediately boarded our vans to go to Taichung.

Stopped by at 湖口 for lunch before the long drive to Taichung.

Of all the vacations we'd had, this is one that we'd stayed in the most places!
For the first 2 nights, we stayed in Le Parker in Taichung. Small hotel, but had a pretty good family suite with 2 queen-sized beds + some space for the kids to roll around in.

After checking into the hotel, we promptly went out to check out the famous 逢甲夜市 to enjoy the street food, sights and smell.

Day 2, we had the first of many Taiwanese porridge breakfasts that we'd eat during this trip. Then off we went to the Rainbow Village 彩虹眷村. It must be the most colorful place in Taiwan! And an extremely fun place to take photos in.

We really enjoyed posing for all kinds of fun shots there!
 .

It was painted by an old 国民党 soldier, who was the last resident in the village that used to be a residential area for the retired soldiers. He started small, and gradually painted more and more of the houses.

From the bright and cheery Rainbow Village, we proceeded to the depressing 921 Earthquake Museum of Taiwan, a national museum dedicated to the 7.3 earthquake that struck the center of Taiwan on 21 September 1999. It certainly made us feel blessed that we live in a country free of natural calamities.

After that, we went to 鹿港老街 for lunch and walkabout.

We had a really good lunch at this restaurant. The food had a lovely homecooked taste, and the oysters in the oyster omelette was soooooo fresh!

Next, we went up the mountain to 星月天空, an animal petting farm cum restaurant. It was quite amusing to play with the animals in the dark!

It was very very cold too!

It was so cold and dark that we didn't stay too long. Didn't want to eat there also. Preferred to go back to town for dinner, and so we did. Had a great hot beef and pork hotpot dinner in a restaurant at 逢甲.

Then it was shopping till late, before we retreated for the night. End of a very enjoyable Day 2.
