This term, Nadine seems a lot more willing to learn, speak, read and sing Chinese. But we thought we should perhaps still send her for some Chinese enrichment classes, since so many of her friends are doing it. Kiasu.
Last week, I showed her a video of her friend reading Chinese flashcards - showing her progress in the subject since going to 天下. Then I asked Nadine if she'd like to go for Chinese lessons so that she can be as good in her Chinese. Her answer, "but I already have Chinese lesson in school."
So I knew there's no point in trying to force her. Not a battle that I want to fight now. Instead, I created my own 天下 at home, with a Chinese app that lets her practise writing Chinese characters, and the assessment books that her kindergarten 'encouraged' parents to buy. And surprisingly, Nadine was cooperative, and willing to spend the time learning the new words, and writing them.
