Korea - Dec 2013: 1st day in Jeju

Jeju was not as cold as the ski resort. But because it is an island, it gets a lot of coastal wind, and when the wind blows, it can become very cold!

On our first day in Jeju, we went to the Teddy Bear Museum, which was too dark to take nice photos. We were quite surprised that it was not just a small museum with a collection of different bears. It had bears dressed up in all kinds of costumes, with various kinds of setting. The kids loved it. It was like a mini indoor theme park.

After that, we went to the "Mysterious Road"
Around 100 meters of the 1100 Road is known as Mysterious Road (Dokkebi Road) because of an optical illusion that makes the downward-sloping road appear to rise uphill. Cars stopped on the road and left out of gear appear to roll uphill, as do bottles or any other easily rolled object. The road actually has a 3 degree downward slant but looks to go uphill because of the surrounding terrain that creates the optical illusion.

Then, it was dinner! Lucy brought us to a traditional Korean restaurant for Jeju's famed black bbq pork, which was yummylicious! But we all left the restaurant smelling like bbq!

After dinner, we went to our hotel - Ocean Suites Jeju Hotel. Fantastic hotel, with nice spacious room, great service, and excellent breakfast!
