The temperature had dipped overnight. When we woke up in the morning, it was cold and windy.
But it was wonderful walking around Olive Tree. It's a really quaint place.
After breakfast, we headed out to explore Nanzhuang and Miaoli.
We first stopped by 南莊老街, before it becomes too crowded, as advised by our driver. It was much smaller than 九份老街, and didn't have as much variety in terms of shops. Perhaps it was also because we were early. Not all the shops were opened yet.
I love this photo of Nadine carrying Aaron so he could see the fish. Well, he didn't....
Nadine removed her hood and put it on Aaron, to make him a lion! Silly antics that they do to entertain themselves!
Coming down the mountain, this was our visibility. Super foggy. Our driver was amazing. He negotiated the narrow, windy roads expertly ...
And got us safely to lunch
After lunch, we went o pick strawberries, which they kids enjoyed enormously, despite the cold.
Then we went to a shop that sells a hand-made food warmer basket (no idea what to call it)
This old lady hand-makes these baskets which were used by farmers to keep their food warm back in those days when there wasn't electric stove nor microwave ovens. Apparently the basket, which has a thick lining inside, can keep food warm for a few hours!
Next, we went to the Schokolake, a chocolate-themed resort. It has a small museum that talks about the history of chocolate, a restaurant where we could decorate chocolate, a bar and accommodation. Its website is definitely more appealing that the actual place!
By the time we were done at Schokolake, it was starting to get dark. The kids were also tired and cold. So we decided to have an early dinner before heading back to Olive Tree.
All the kids fell asleep on our way back to Olive Tree.
Once back and washed up, they happily snuggled up to their iPads.
